Law enforcement officials urge the use of designated drivers as they step up their drunk driving patrols

LANSING, MI (WTVB) - It’s great news if you run a brewery or a liquor store but the confluence of St. Patrick’s Day coming up Monday, March Madness and for some, spring break can make the roads a lot less safe. That’s why 144 Michigan police agencies will be using federal dollars to fund extra patrols for the next three weeks, beginning this weekend.

Michael Prince with the Office of Highway Safety Planning says local officers know exactly the best places to wait for drunks. Prince says last year during this period the arrested over 23-hundred drunk drivers statewide, citing 671 for being super-drunks.
