GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WTVB) - A southwest Michigan industrial economist says February continued to show slow but steady growth despite the nasty winter weather, but he says it may have been even more robust without the snow and cold. Dr. Brian Long is the director of Supply Management Research in the Seidman College of Business at Grand Valley State University. He says the auto industry in particular took a hit in January and February as sales were down at the Big Three. Folks were reluctant to go car shopping in the cold.
Long says the furniture industry also took a hit as construction slowed and companies expended their budgets at years end.
