Former R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe has unveiled his first new music since the legendary Georgia-based band announced its breakup two and a half years ago. Those expecting something similar to R.E.M. may be disappointed, though. According to Billboard , Stipe's new song is an instrumental piece that finds him playing keyboards and electronic drums and that accompanies the film The Cold Lands , which is currently out on video-on-demand services. The film was directed by longtime Stipe collaborator Tom Gilroy .
Stipe says, "If there was a singer, it wouldn't have been me… This is not what people want to hear from me. But [it's what] I want to offer." You can check the new music out now at Salon.com .
