Between prepping for and pulling off the Red Hot Chili Peppers ' Super Bowl performance, bassist Flea managed to confirm the news that Chad Smith had already broken last week: It's off to the recording studio for the band. Rolling Stone reports that at a pre-Super Bowl party on Saturday, Flea called the Chili Peppers' halftime appearance "one last blowout. We're just about to go into a period of hibernation and make a new record."
Though Chili Peppers fans rocked out to the band's classic "Give It Away" at the halftime show, Flea says the band is focusing on new frontiers and that a new album will be an opportunity to "progress." That thought is in line with what Smith told Billboard last week, when he revealed that his group's concept for the follow-up to 2011's I'm with You will include "a little different approach to the writing process. We're all looking forward to that."
