Stone Temple Pilots feels that their new lead singer, Linkin Park ’s Chester Bennington , was the perfect choice to replace their founding frontman, Scott Weiland . Bassist Robert DeLeo says he knew Bennington was right for the job because of his dedication to STP's musical legacy.
"He’s made it clear that he grew up on our music," DeLeo tells the Newark, NJ Star-Ledger . “But the thing that sold me was that he told us that the only way he’d ever want to do this is if we honor the past and move forward in a creative direction. That’s what we wanted, too.”
DeLeo adds while parting ways with Weiland was difficult, it was necessary in order for the group to move forward. "We had a lot of great years with Scott, and we made amazing music together,” he explains. “But somewhere along the line, the vision was lost. We wish Scott the best."
The band, which has now officially changed its name to Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington , is set to release its debut EP, High Rise , on October 8.
