DETROIT, MI (WTVB) - August turned out to be a very good month for car sales in the United States. Ford Motor Company’s retails sales grew last month across the country by 20% with total sales up by 12%. This marks the automaker’s best monthly retail performance since August of 2006. Chrysler is posting its best August since 2007. The automaker reports a 12% increase over last year's figures. It's the 41st consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains.
While all four brands posted year-over-year increases, the Ram Truck brand’s 29% leap was the largest gain. And General Motors' August sales were the highest of 2013 and the best since September of 2008, when the global financial crisis began to accelerate. GM's overall U.S. sales in August increased by 15% over the same period last year.
