PLAINWELL, MI (WTVB) - The state’s 15 day firearms deer hunting season started today. You can expect some businesses to close, it may be tough to get some service calls answered and a number of school districts in northern and central Michigan won’t be holding classes because a lot of people plan to be in the woods today.
Michigan Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Specialist Steve Chadwick says the bow season has already been underway for a couple of weeks and they are finding deer. Last year the worst outbreak of EHD ever seen all but wiped out deer in some parts of the state, but Chadwick says nature has a way of healing itself. They have had reports of does with multiple births this year, very typical of any natural resource as they tend to rebound. They will be operating a deer check station at their office in Plainwell all weekend.
