Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted says that the upcoming debut album of his new band, Newsted , will feature a positive message.

“The thread that goes through the lyrical content is about standing up for yourself, being true,” he tells Rolling Stone .  “It's all up stuff, and I get to say this from the microphone now as the frontman.  I get to spread positive vibes instead of trying to out-grimace people.  I already did that.”

The bassist adds that the band, which recently kicked off a North American tour, will be performing a number of the new tracks during their live sets.  “We play the four songs from the [recently-released Metal ] EP in the set, but we're sharing a lot of new music now,” he reveals.  “It's a cool thing -- we're delivering 13 songs as the four-piece band.”

Newsted is expected to release their first full-length album sometime this summer.
