LANSING (WKZO) -- A law focused on keeping teen drivers safer goes into effect Thursday. Kelsey's Law, named for a Sault Ste. Marie teen who was killed in a cell-phone related crash in 2010, makes it illegal for teens with Level 1 and Level 2 driver's licenses to use a cell phone while driving.
The law does not apply to voice-operated, hands free phones that are built into cars. Emergency calls are also exempt from the law.
