MSU: No bias in out-of-state admissions

EAST LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan State University officials say they do not have a bias toward accepting more out-of-state students.

The "Lansing State Journal" reports MSU issued nearly two-thousand more out-of-state acceptance letters in 2011 while facing a 42-million dollar cut in state funding.  Students who are not from Michigan pay roughly 19-thousand dollars a year more than in-state students, which means if all two-thousand were to attend, it would bring in an extra 38-million in tuition and fees.

The newspaper reports admissions officials deny there is a bias toward out-of-state students, and say the number of students at MSU has fallen since 2008.
