Michigan State University upperclasssmen could face tuition hike

EAST LANSING, MI (WTVB) - Parents who figure they’re almost over the hump in footing the bill for a son or daughter who’s a junior or senior at M-S-U or a student facing big debts on graduation from East Lansing…..the expenses may pile up even more. Michigan State University is considering a tuition hike for upperclassman.  For the first time at the university, upperclassman could face a higher tuition increase than freshmen and sophomores.

During a press briefing yesterday, MSU officials outlined proposed tuition increases of one-point-nine-percent for freshmen and sophomores and 3.6% for upperclassmen next year.  If the increase is approved by MSU's Board of Trustees, freshmen and sophomores with a 30-credit hour load would pay just over $12,800 annually, while juniors and seniors would pay close to $14,300.

Trustees are expected to vote on the proposed increase on Friday.
