LANSING -- It may be the summer break but there is still some action at the Capitol.
Senator Rick Jones held hearings on a bill yesterday that would prevent citizens with a record of animal abuse from adopting new pets. It would give animal shelters free access to criminal histories.
It’s called ‘Logan’s law’ after a Huskie that was attacked in its kennel by someone who splashed the dog with acid.
There had been proposals to create an animal abuser registry like the state’s sex offender registry.
This may be a simpler alternative. It’s still just a proposal, but Jones says he would like to try to get it to the Governor’s desk before the end of the year.
