Schuette files brief with U.S. Bankruptcy Court over Detroit pensions

LANSING (WKZO) -- Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette has followed through on his plan to file a brief with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in an effort to save the pensions of City of Detroit workers and retirees.

The Attorney General believes he can protect the pensions by upholding the Michigan Constitution.  The move puts Schuette in a unique position since Governor Rick Snyder approved filing the Chapter 9 bankruptcy by Detroit  Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr.

Schuette says he plans to tell Judge Steven Rhodes that "Michigan residents live under a constitution that protects hard-earned pensions."
