Source still a mystery, but Tough Mudder bug is a norovirus

LANSING (WKZO) -- The Michigan Department of Public Health has identified the bug that made runners at the Tough Mudder race at M.I.S. sick as a norovirus, which is a particularly contagious disease.

They took samples from some of the victims and analyzed them on Friday.

Spokesperson Angela Minicuci says they have about 200 reported cases.

The source could have been contaminants in the pools of mud and water or even another runner, leaving the virus on obstacles.

She says they are telling victims to stay at home two to three days past their symptoms, just to make sure they don’t spread it.

They say anything an infected person may have touched needs to be sanitized and their clothes washed on the hottest setting.
