Poll finds support for logoed barware in Michigan restaurants

LANSING (WKZO) -- Restaurant and bar owners may hope to see a change in what they're allowed to use in their own establishments, despite a state regulation.  Officials with the Michigan Restaurant Association and Michigan Licensed Beverage Association are bringing attention to a recent poll's results that support allowing establishment owners to use logoed barware items such as glassware and napkins.

The poll conducted by Marketing Resource Group found that 75-percent of Michigan residents surveyed either strongly or somewhat support a change in the ban on such items put in place by the Michigan Liquor Control Code Act of 1998.  Just nine-percent opposed the idea and 14-percent didn't care one way or the other.

The ban prevents the use of glasses, napkins, or other items with logos from companies that market alcoholic beverages that establishments might receive as free promotional products for patrons to use.  Michigan's the only state that prevents the use of such items, even if an establishment pays for them.
