It's time to rejoice, audiophiles!  Saturday, April 20, marks the sixth annual installment of Record Store Day, which is celebrated at independent music retailers throughout the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and a few other countries.  In commemoration of the unofficial holiday, a vast number of artists issue limited-edition vinyl singles, EPs and LPs that are sold exclusively at participating indie record shops.

- Soundgarden ’s 10” pink vinyl album boasting six demos recorded during the sessions from their first album in more than 15 years, King Animal.

- A reissue of Jimi Hendrix' 1966 single "Hey Joe" backed with "Stone Free" in the original mono mix.

- The Band 's swansong concert album The Last Waltz , reissued in its original three-LP configuration.

-The Doors will be represented in a special 7" single featuring the band's original 1967 recording of "Soul Kitchen" on one side and Los Angeles punk band X 's version of the song on the flip.  And Doors drummer John Densmore will be making his own appearance on Record Store Day, signing copies of his new memoir at an an indie record shop in Portland, ME.  Densmore tells ABC News Radio he's glad his book tour is taking him to such places instead of just book shops.  "Independent record stores are run by people that are real passionate about the music," he says.  "They really care and they're sorta like the new Borders coffee house scene."

-Ramones drummer Marky Ramone has just re-issued the two albums by his pre-Ramones band, Dust , on one CD, but there will be a special two-LP version out on Record Store Day.  Ramone tells ABC News Radio that he appreciates that there are still vinyl aficionados out there. "It's interesting that there are purists that still collect today and they still believe in that warmth and depth of vinyl compared to a CD or something you listen to on your iPod," he says.  "I have every format because I travel and I can't bring vinyl with me.  Sorry, but when I'm home, I tend to listen to vinyl."

Other artists offering special product for Record Store Day include David Bowie , Paul McCartney & Wings , Bob Dylan , Pink Floyd , Small Faces , Sly and the Family Stone , The Zombies and many others.

Carrie Colliton -- co-founder of Record Store Day -- says you should plan on hanging out at your local record store for a while after you pick up your share of the exclusive vinyl releases. “Every single store plans their own events and they range from barbeques and cookout to major concerts,” says Colliton. “Most of the stores have some form of live music going on, and most of the stores will also have free party favors, promotional things to give to their customers.”
