LANSING (WKZO) -- The implementation of federal sequestration will not result in any layoffs of state workers in Michigan. The State Budget Office says that while Michigan will lose about 150-million dollars in federal funding in the coming fiscal year, the 2013-2014 budget is structured in such a way that state workers will be protected.
The most significant impact will be felt in the Department of Human Services. They will eliminate the 137-dollar per child clothing allowance that is currently allotted each year to 21-thousand children.
In the current fiscal year, 42-percent of the state budget comes from federal funds. Sequestration reductions represent less than four-tenths of one percent of the total budget.
