Michigan right-to-work law arguments come before court

by

LANSING (WKZO) -- Arguments are being heard in Lansing over a lawsuit regarding the state's new right to work law.

Opponents say the state's Open Meetings Act was violated when the Capitol Building was closed off to the public.  The American Civil Liberties Union and a coalition of unions and Democratic lawmakers filed the lawsuit.  Michigan State Police said they closed the building over safety concerns.

Attorney General Bill Schuette has asked Judge William Collette to dismiss the case because hundreds of protestors were inside the building while lawmakers debated the measure.  Schuette also pointed out that when the building was closed, House members were debated a third right to work bill that did not become law.
