All right. Here we
go. The final push. There are several big games this weekend in
the NFL with playoff implications. You’ve
gotta love when it all comes down to week 17.
Win and you’re in. Lose and you
go home. It’s truly all you can ask for
as a coach, player, fan – to control your own destiny.
Oops…there’s that phrase.
The observance of Festivus may have expired 24 hours ago, but consider this my airing of grievances: for some reason, the phrase “control your destiny” gets the dander up on some folks. You know who I’m talking about – the individuals who go out of their way to point out that the very definition of destiny ensures that the outcome cannot be altered, changed, nor controlled. “Duh…that’s why it’s destiny.” Right, got it nerds. Thanks for educating the rest of us illiterates.
I don’t know why that bothers me so much, but it grinds my beans mega-force. Relax, dictionary police - it’s just a convenient shortcut to understanding for us sports types. In one week, you won’t have to worry about us talking about controlling destiny…until late February/early March.
